The spectrum of PG 1550+191, the new AM Herculis variable discovered by Stockman et al. (1981), has been observed from λλ 4400 to 8300 Å and shows titanium oxide bands. These bands can be associated with an M dwarf whose spectrum is superimposed on a continuum, together with an emission spectrum. An M type classification is in agreement with a Roche lobe-filling star at the orbital period discovered by Stockman et al. Lower and upper limits for the distance are 61 and 583 pc respectively.
