It is shown that the inferred slope of the density law for a massive galactic halo is sensitive to the distribution of mass within the radius of interest. Illustrative rotation curves are presented that are flat to + or - 1 km/s in the region from 40 to 60 kpc, but which have local logarithmic slopes for the halo density law of about 2.7 (and in one case a finite total mass) instead of the conventionally assumed logarithmic slope of 2.0. The contributions of the disk and spheroid must be taken into account in the intermediate region of about 10-30 kpc in which most current observations are being carried out. These results complicate the interpretation of galaxy rotation curves at large galactocentric distances.
