We propose to observe with XMM-Newton the Z source GX 340+0 for 40 ks. A broad emission feature compatible with a highly ionized iron line has been detected both in BeppoSAX and in Chandra observations of the source. The Chandra spectrum suggests that the line might be of relativistic origin, but does not allow to discriminate between Compton and relativistic broadening of the line. The superior collecting area at the iron line energy of XMM-Newton is required to give a definitive answer to the problem of the origin of this broad line.
