The relationship between gas density and magnetic field strength in the interstellar medium the nature of magnetohydrodynamic processes under interstellar conditions. The B-ρ relation is important not only as a probe of interstellar gas dynamics but also for its implications for the generation and evolution of the Galactic magnetic field. Observations suggest that the B-ρ relation is determined largely by diffusion. Ambipolar drift acting in concert with turbulence is the most viable candidate for a rapid diffusion mechanism.
