A sample of 72 nearby (distance class less than or equal to 4) Abell clusters of galaxies has been observed at 430 MHz with the 305-m telescope at Arecibo. No strong evidence has been found for the existence of radio halo sources similar to the one in the Coma cluster in any of the clusters in the sample, and approximate upper limits to the luminosity of halo sources in these clusters have been calculated. It appears that Coma-type radio halos are uncommon.
