We present calculations of planet formation, taking into account the effect of interactions between the forming planet and the protoplanetary disk. We show that these effects suppress the phase 2 of planet formation described in Pollack et al. (1996), and then reduce the whole formation time by a factor of at least two, leading to values closer to the observed lifetimes of circumstellar disks.
