We continue the work exposed in Lecavelier des Étangs et al. (2000) concerning a possible detection of fluorescence emission from Fe II ions inside the β Pictoris gaseous disk. We use new data (2001) obtained with HST-STIS but cannot confirm the previous results. We calculate the maximum Fe II column density at 10 AU from the center star, in the South-West extension of the disk: N(Fe II)10 AU ˜ 1012 cm-2.
