An attempt is made to demonstrate the individual phases of the large scale and long lasting magnetic field pattern formation involved in the development of solar energetic particle sources, with attention to magnetic field configurations and phase morphology. The time scale of the process is given, along with a discussion of possible reasons for such development, and the proton flare regions of August 1972 and July 1974 are used as examples of the successive magnetic field complication and strengthening which leads to (1) the still more complicated magnetic and velocity fields producing proton flares, and then (2) the fast disintegration of the magnetic situation occupying more than one half of the visible solar surface following the occurrence of the proton flares. Consequences useful in proton flare prediction are discussed.
