Helios-2 measurements of three flare-generated shock waves at radial distances from the sun of 0.476, 0.444, and 0.297 AU show that, while two of the shocks fulfil the classification scheme of 'F-events', the third shock profile is that of an 'R-event', interpreted as a driven wave. The proximity of the sun makes a flare association possible evidence for a piston in the downstream region of the shock is found in only one of the cases, and another is characterized by a distinct hole in the frequency distribution of directional discontinuities in the downstream region.
