A general form of the nuclear charge (Z) scaling law for the photoionization cross-section in magnetic fields is derived. it turns out that the cross-section for Z> 1 is scaled down to that for Z = 1 taken at electron and photon energies which are no longer connected by the conservation of energy. By specializing to the dipole approximation a simpler scaling law is obtained. The possibility of experimental tests is briefly discussed. For a magnetic field of 4.7 × 1012G and photon energies up to 50 keV the range of validity of the dipole approximation is determined quantitatively.
