The two brighter near-infrared sources in Orion Molecular Cloud 2, IRS 3 and 4, were observed at moderate spectral resolution in the near-infrared. At least eight members of the V = 1-0 and V = 2-1 rotation-vibration series of H2 were found in IRS 4. The line ratios and intensities argue that the source is shock-excited, with an excitation temperature of 3000 + or - 800 K. Ultraviolet pumping of the H2 appears unlikely, but perhaps not by a large factor. The values determined for extinction and excitation of IRS 4 are consistent with previous determinations of a middle B ZAMS object, extinguished by 10-15 visual magnitudes. The region of H2 emission, however, is more probably extinguished by 20-30 magnitudes.
