Digital stacking of Palomar Schmidt plates of M31 shows that the outermost isophotes of this galaxy are anti-symmetrically warped. The fact that this warp shows up in both yellow and red light suggests that it is produced by starlight rather than by emission nebulosity. This conjecture is supported by Baade's observations of the distribution of Population II giants in M31.
