We describe a technique by which the metal abundance (Fe/H) and reddening of globular cluster are simultaneously derived given the shape of the red giant branch (RGB), the V magnitude of the horizontal branch (HB), and the apparent V - I color of the RGB at the level of the HB. This method is then tested on the Galactic globular clusters Palomar 12 and C0422-213 in Eridanus to demonstrate its validity and usefulness. Application of this technique to photometry of the globular cluster Ruprecht 106 yields a metallicity of (Fe/H) = -1.61 +/- 0.20 and a reddening of E(B - V) = 0.13 +/- 0.03.
