Galileo-NIMS observations of Loki Patera shows distinctly different temperatures in different regions. The bulk of the patera shows a relatively low temperature between 300 and 400K with a smooth gradient generally consistent with the periodic wave resurfacing model of Rathbun et al (2002). However a small fraction of the surface must be occuppied by a higher temperature component, which has been modeled by others (eg. Davies 2003) as a "hot crack" fraction. The inner and outer margins display a substantially higher temperatures than the interior, with yet another distinctly higher temperature component present on the straight southwestern edge, taken to be evidence of breakup of the margins of a lava-lake type surface (Lopes et al. 2004). More detailed analysis of the observations of these distinct components are presented to better constrain areas and temperatures. These in turn are compared with lava resurfacing models including possible buffering effects of due to volatiles.
