Scientific paper

The paper examines a model of the transition region between the front of a detached shock wave and the magnetopause is examined which includes a magnetic barrier (a region of quasi-two-dimensional flow near the magnetopause) and the region in front of the barrier. Calculations are made of the plasma density and magnetic field strength near the magnetopause for different values of the Mach-Alfven number (4-50) in the solar wind and for different orientations of the interplanetary magnetic field.
