The titanium isotopic compositions of several hibonite-rich inclusions from the Murchison carbonaceous chondrite have been measured using an ion microprobe. Several of these inclusions show a considerable deficit in 50Ti compared to terrestrial titanium. This result complements the recent discovery of a hibonite grain from the Murray meteorite with a 10% excess in 50Ti. There is no correlation between the magnitude or sign of the 50Ti anomaly and the mineralogy, chemical composition, inferred initial 26Al/27Al, nuclear anomalies in other isotopes of titanium or isotopic mass fractionation of magnesium, calcium, or titanium. The authors infer that at least 7% of solar system 50Ti was added shortly before formation of the solar system, probably by mixing of ≡5% supernova ejecta into the presolar cloud.
