Recently available data on solar energetic particle (SEP) abundances above 5 MeV/amu are examined to determine the temperature conditions in particle emission regions. It has been observed that SEP abundances of He, C, N, and Ne (with respect to oxygen) are only weakly enhanced over their photospheric value. From this it is shown that this type of abundance variations can arise if the initial plasma from which the acceleration occurs has temperature values around, log T = 5.90 + or - 0.15 K. Similarly, from observations that S and Ar are also only weakly enhanced likely temperature conditions are found to be about log T = 5.60 + or - 0.20 K in SEP regions. Thus temperature values of about log T = 5.80 + or - 0.10 or T = 631,000 + or - 163,000 K for the SEP source regions are suggested. This compares well with direct measurements of charge states at low energies of 1 MeV/amu. The importance of this is noted.
