Most active galactic nuclei are variable sources in the optical. The delay between variations in their continuum and their emission lines gives us information about the distance of the line emitting region from the central ionizing source. The study of the line profile variations contains information on geometry and kinematics of the broad emitting line gas that surrounds the central supermassive black hole in the nuclei of active galaxies. I present results of a spectral variability campaign of the Seyfert galaxies NGC 5548 and Mrk 110.
