German astronomer, born in Leipzig, was a pioneer solar astronomer,
classifying solar prominences. He first suggested that the spectral
types of stars represent an evolutionary sequence, starting hot and
cooling. This idea was taken up with variations by H C VOGEL and NORMAN
LOCKYER....
