Assuming that gamma-ray bursts (GRBs) result from emission originated by relativistically moving particles in a beam with a large bulk Lorentz factor, we demonstrate that a conical beam affects the width and the shape of the luminosity function. We investigate effects of a spatial variation of the Lorentz factor and spatial density fluctuations within the cone on the luminosity function and implications on the redshift distribution of the observed GRBs. A non-uniform conical beam yields substantially higher maximum redshifts than those inferred with uniform beam models. Consequently, when high redshift values of GRBs are interpreted, the effect of the luminosity function should be considered appropriately as well as the source evolution effect. We study the power density spectrum (PDS) of artificial light curves of GRBs. We discuss implications on interpretations of PDS analysis results. We present an example to emphasize that, though an attempt to identify the most sensitive physical parameter has been made on the basis of the internal shock model, conclusions of this kind of approach should be derived with due care. We show that the reported slope of the averaged PDS and the distribution of individual power can be reproduced by adjusting the sampling interval in the time domain for a given decaying timescale of individual pulse in a specific form of GRB light curves. We propose that the PDS analysis could be used for more important problems such as the evolution of the GRB emission in a single burst and the classification of the origin of short and long bursts. .
