Born in Göppingen, Germany, taught by, and an assistant to, PETER APIAN, became professor of astronomy at Tubingen, where he taught the Copernican as well as the Ptolemaic system. He taught KEPLER, and helped him to publish his first work, Mysterium Cosmographicum (1596). He made his own astronomical instruments.
