Astrophysicist, born in New York City, worked at the US Naval Research
Laboratory in Washington, used rockets for astronomical observations,
including solar x-ray astronomy using Geiger counters and detectors
developed from them. Showed in 1964 that a celestial x-ray source
coincided with the Crab Nebula supernova remnant....
