Stability criteria for a space-platform containing a spinning rotor are obtained in this paper. It is shown that the so-called energy sink condition is not necessary for stability. Necessary and sufficient criteria are established based on a simple energy method. In the interpretation of the criteria, various interesting cases are presented, such as constant and variable spin rates, distributions of energies, and motor effects.
