One of the outstanding questions concerning the Hermean sodium exosphere is the cause and frequency of occurrence of high latitude enhancements. To study the cause of these high latitude variations, we have coupled an exosphere model with the Toffoletto-Hill magnetosphere model, modified for Mercury, to estimate the ion sputtering source for the exosphere. The solar wind density and velocity, and interplanetary magnetic field (Bx, By, Bz) are given by the most probable values from a clustering analysis of Helios data obtained within Mercury's orbital distance. The flux of heavy ions and protons are calculated separately in order to more accurately calculate the ion-sputter yield. In addition to ion sputtering, we calculate photon-stimulated desorption and meteoritic vaporization rates. The simulated Hermean sodium exosphere is compared with data obtained with the McMath-Pierce solar telescope. We compare the model with specific observations and average observations as a function of true anomaly angle.
