We observed 11 Giga-Hertz Peaked Spectrum (GPS) sources with Chandra/ACIS-S. Here we present the results of our observations with emphasis on the X-ray spectral properties of the sample. We detect all 11 sources and find that they are powerful X-ray emitters, with X-ray luminosities in the range L(0.1-2keV) ˜ 1044}-10{47 ergs s-1. We discuss the observed spectral parameters and the connection between GPS sources and the population of high luminosity quasars. Prior to Chandra, X-ray observations of a small sample of GPS sources indicated that associated intrinsic absorption is linked to this source class. The high spatial resolution of Chandra now allows us to study the environment of these sources within arc seconds of the strong compact core. GPS sources are known to have compact radio morphology (< 1kpc). They have been interpreted as either young counterparts of FR I radio galaxies or as ``frustrated'' AGN, in which the radio jets are not able to penetrate the host galaxy's gas and dust. We discuss possible processes responsible for the GPS quasars X-ray emission and the implications on our understanding of the GPS properties.
