An overview of studies of ZZ Ceti stars, whose variables are white dwarfs of spectral type DA, is presented. Recent calculations reveal that the theoretical blue edge to the ZZ Ceti instability strip agrees with the observed one, if the amount of hydrogen at the surface of a ZZ Ceti variable is approximately between 10 to the -8th and 10 to the -12th of the total stellar mass. Changes in the degree of ionization in the helium and hydrogen zones excite the star's oscillations. ZZ Ceti star oscillations may possibly be used to study the internal compositional structure and cooling rate of white dwarfs, as well as the framework of stellar evolution.
