The paper demonstrates that the Fesenko gradient (1978) in the number density of galaxies brighter than 15.7 m which are perpendicular to the ecliptic result from the larger limiting magnitudes in Vol. I of the Zwicky catalog. The Zwicky catalog magnitude corrections as a function of the intensity of the zodiacal light averages about 0.1 m; the effect is probably larger for galaxies of low surface brightness.
