The data of the quasar absorption line surveys of Young, Sargent, and Boksenberg (1982) and of Foltz et al. (1986) are combined to show that a two-parameter correlation between the presence of C IV z(abs) roughly equal to z(em) systems and both the radio and optical luminosity of the underlying quasar is present at the 95 percent confidence level. The sense of the correlation is such that radio-loud quasars fainter than M(V) of about -27 are four times more likely to contain z(abs) roughly equal to z(em) systems than are other categories of quasars. It is suggested that this correlation can be understood in the intervening cluster member interpretation of z(abs) roughly equal to z(em) systems. The discrepancy between the survey results can be understood as being due to the first sample containing many more optically selected, intrinsically bright quasars than the latter sample.
