Evolution and interaction of radio sources with their environment play an essential role to form galaxies, in particular elliptical galaxies. However spectral signatures are not so easy to interpret. The integral field spectroscopy is able to locally disentangle the various emissions (emission lines and continua). A coupled version of codes (PEGASE, CLOUDY, MAPPINGSIII) gives diagnostic diagrams, allowing the identification of the main processes (shocks, photoionization by AGN and/or star formation). Distant galaxies (z < 5) are compared to nearer galaxies (z = 0.5). The relation with galaxy formation models and the star formation histories gives a crucial role to the observations of these distant targets.
