We discuss three high resolution coudé spectrograms of the bright T Tauri star RW Aur, which were obtained in January 1981 on three consecutive nights. One spectrogram shows well defined absorption features longward of various strong emission lines. This seems to confirm earlier reports by other authors that RW Aur is a member of the YY Orionis subclass of the T Tauri stars. Also present on one spectrogram is a slightly redshifted G-type absorption spectrum which may be produced either by absorption in the outer layers of the circumstellar envelope or by a superposition of the envelope emission lines on a late type photo spheric spectrum. If the latter interpretation were correct, RW Aur would be a YY Orionis star of unusually early photospheric spectral type.
