Using Wood's (1972) model we have reanalyzed Abhyankar's (1972) three-colour photoelectric observations - as yet only crudely studied - of the eclipsing binary YY CMi, for which questionable views have often been presented in the literature. The photometric elements we have derived appreciably differ from the previous ones and lead to a contact configuration. The primary (roughly an F6 star) appears to be accompanied by a somewhat fainter and cooler (early G) secondary of practically equal sizes.
The absolute elements of YY CMi, tentatively estimated by assuming for the primary a mass of 1.2 Msun reveal that both members (especially the secondary) appear to be over-luminous and oversized for their masses and spectral types. Thus YY CMi can be regarded as an evolved contact system.
