The north/south behavior of Swedish auroras is compared with the disturbances determined from a Yule analysis of sunspots for approximately the past two centuries. A general pattern of northward movements during periods of low disturbances and southward movements during periods of high disturbances is noted. The results support the previous proposal (Silverman, 1983, 1985) that there are two branches in the relationship between auroral occurrence and sunspot maxima. The results indicate that the average disturbance for the aurorally deficient branch is much lower than that for all cycles.
