A deep Hα+[N II] photograph has been obtained with the UKSTU 1.2-m Schmidt camera of a field over the Shapley blue "wing" of stars in the Magellanic H I bridge which projects from the Small Magellanic Cloud. The most notable object that has been detected is a 160-pc diameter filamentary shell. It is demonstrated that a single O8 star could photoionize this structure. The expected wind from such a star could form the shell in ≅5×106yr. Alternatively a supernova explosion with a kinetic energy of 1050 - 1051erg could produce the shell in a similar time.
