We present new low-resolution optical spectra of six candidate young objects with estimated masses near and below the Deuterium-burning limit, identified by Spitzer in nearby star-forming regions. We use these spectra, from the ESO Very Large Telescope on Paranal and the New Technology Telescope on La Silla, to look for signs of youth and disk accretion, such as H_alpha emission, and to derive spectral types of these candidates. Based on mid-infrared excesses and spectroscopic signatures of accretion, we evaluate the evidence for disks around isolated young planetary mass objects and discuss implications for their formation.
