In 2006 a new transient 'Z' source, XTE J1701-462, was discovered, the first new object of this class since the beginning of X-ray astronomy. All other objects in this class have variable radio counterparts, which in two cases (Sco X-1 and Cir X-1) have been resolved into highly relativistic outflows. ATCA observations of this source in 2006 Jan - March by ourselves reveal a radio counterpart consistent with the other Z sources, and therefore in all likelihood a new relativistic jet source. We propose for [a] a set of coordinated radio and X-ray observations to further investigate the disc:jet coupling, [b] a deep radio image to search for a large-scale jet-powered nebula around the source.
