Our understanding of Intermediate Polars -- interacting white-dwarf/red-dwarf binaries with a magnetic primary -- plays an important role in our understanding of magnetically channelled accretion. Yet we don't understand why most IPs show single-peaked X-ray pulses while others are double peaked. An XMM observation of V2306~Cyg -- until now out of XMM's viewing window -- will be the first XMM observation of a double-peaked system. This will reveal the causes of the spin pulse, whether related to absorption, occultation or electron scattering, and, combined with UV lightcurves and optical polarimetry, will enable us to determine the accretion geometry. By comparing with the other IP observations we are currently analysing, we aim to explain why these two types of IP exist.
