Recent observations of X-ray faint early-type galaxies have yielded surprising results. Firstly, there seems to be substantially lower ISM metal enrichment than expected from observations of the brightest galaxies and groups, and secondly the existence of dark matter halos in them, which are predicted by N-body cosmological simulations, has been called into question. Both of these results suggest a sharp change in galaxy properties at intermediate luminosities. However, data-points from galaxies between these extremes are rare. We propose a 60ks observation of the S0 NGC1332, to supplement Chandra data that are providing tantalizing but inconclusive constraints in both of these key areas.
