Fast stellar winds from massive stars sweep up the surrounding gas to form bubbles. The shocked stellar wind reaches X-ray-emitting temperatures. Only two bubbles have been confirmed to emit diffuse X-rays: NGC 6888 and S 308. Both bubbles are blown by Wolf-Rayet stars, contain processed stellar material ejected by their progenitors, and have X-ray luminosity 1-2 orders of magnitude lower than theoretical predictions. Our 100 ks Chandra ACIS-S observations of the northeast quadrant of NGC 6888 present the first high-resolution image and clean spectrum of its diffuse X-ray emission. To obtain a global view of the physical structure of NGC 6888, we request a 30 ks XMM-Newton observation, which will otherwise take Chandra 300 ks for a similar mapping of the entire bubble.
