The puzzling family of Central Compact Objects (CCOs) in young supernova remnants is represented by a small (<10) handful of young neutron stars which do not show any ``standard'' pulsar activity. Their overall properties are largely unknown. We propose to observe CXO J085201.4-461753 and RX J1713.7-3941, two among the least studied members of the class. EPIC unprecedented throughput coupled to time and spectral resolution will allow for a deep search for pulsations, as well as a detailed phase-resolved spectral analysis in case of a positive periodicity detection. Periodicity and phase-resolved spectra are the key observations required to unravel the mysterious nature of CCOs and their possible relationships with other classes of sources such as AXPs and SGRs.
