We propose XMM EPIC observations of the AGN sample in the ASCA Large Sky Survey, which is spectroscopically complete at a 2-10 keV limiting flux of 1E-13 erg/cm2/s and where a number of luminous and X-ray hard AGN have been found. Our observations will solve the degeneracy between spectral flatness and X-ray absorpion in these sources, which are identified as broad line objects, revealing if they are indeed obscured QSOs. Also, the column density distribution of the whole sample, compared with that expected from synthesis models, will indicate if there are variations in the average absorbing columns of high and low luminosity AGN.
