We propose 30 ksec × 2 observations of the star forming region Taurus Molecular Cloud, with twofold objectives.The main purpose is to examine with hard X-rays whether starless cores known in the Taurus Molecular Cloud are really star-less or not, in a hope of discovering the earliset stage of the star forming process.The other purpose is to conduct the first high sensitivity hard X-ray observations of this prototypical object, in a close comparison with the better studied ρ-Oph star forming region.The Taurus Molecular Cloud is known to have many star-less cores and ρ-Oph has a few, so a comparison of these two star forming regions would be of great value in understanding the overall dynamics of dark cloud.
