Lambda Ori Cluster, Xmm-Newton Proposal 02008501

We propose to carry out observations with XMM-EPIC/MOS in the young, nearby cluster (5 Myr, 340 pc) associated with the Lambda Orionis multiple star. We have already identified a large population in this association, down to 0.020 M_Sun. Using the X-ray data, we will: i) Asses the membership of our candidates. ii) Detect new members. iii) Analyze the X-ray in combination of optical and IR light curves. iv) Study the X-ray luminosity function (LF) and look for a cut-off at the substellar domain. v) Compare the X-ray LF with those corresponding to other clusters of different ages.
