Observations of X-ray superbursts from accreting neutron stars such as KS 1731-260 place require a sufficiently large temperature for the burst ignition. A previously computed rate for neutrino cooling from superfluid neutrons, which is extremely important in determining the crustal temperature, fails to explain the observations because the large neutrino emissivity forces the neutron star crust to be too cold. We show why this previous rate is incorrect, and show that the corrected rate can improve the agreement between the models and the observations. We discuss other contributions to the cooling of neutron star crusts and evaluate the present ability of models to match the observations.
