Clusters Of Galaxies: Masses, Clusters Of Galaxies: X Rays
Scientific paper
The study of galaxy clusters by X-ray observations with ROSAT is reviewed and some topics of recent progress are presented. The reliability of mass determination in clusters using X-ray data is discussed in the light of recent simulations and comparisons of lensing and X-ray mass studies. The matter composition of clusters is addressed, in particular the galaxy light versus X-ray gas distribution. The spectral capabilities of the ROSAT PSPC in cluster studies are illustrated. Finally some results concerning the recent ROSAT discovery of the sixth brightest galaxy cluster in X-rays, Abell 3627, are presented.
