Starburst driven outflows have a great impact on the chemical evolution of the universe by enriching the IGM with metal rich gas. Since this high temperature gas escapes from star forming regions, these outflows provide a sink for both mass and energy in starbursts and may help regulate the star formation rate. We plan to use Chandra to study two collisional ring galaxies that have strong evidence of massive starburst driven outflows. By comparing these galaxies to each other and to the already observed Cartwheel galaxy, we will determine the composition, temperature, and morphology of the starburst driven outflow, as well as the primary emission mechanisms within these systems. The high spatial resolution and sensitivity of Chandra make it ideally suited for this study.
