In the X-ray spectrochemical analysis of silicates, a computer program was adapted for determining the coefficients required to correct for interelemental absorption and enhancement effects. In order to avoid the narrow choice and unreliability of natural standards, synthetic mixtures were prepared for determining the correction coefficients and standard curves. Using a fusion technique with a Li 2 B 4 O 7 -Li 2 CO 3 mixture and without a heavy absorber, it was shown that the method was as precise and accurate as any similar method with or without background correction. The method gave analytical values for W-1, S-1, and T-1 standards which were within acceptable limits of the published mean compositions. On the basis of the SiO 2 and CaO values, it was suggested that the SiO 2 contents of the natural standards were slightly higher and the CaO contents slightly lower than the published mean values.
