We propose the observation with XMM-Newton of a sample of 12 optically selected Narrow-Line Seyfert 1 galaxies (NLS1) discovered in the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) and never observed in X-rays. The key aim of this project is the study of the X-ray spectral properties and correlations of optically selected NLS1. The superior capabilities of XMM will allow to deconvolve spectral components if appropriate. The results will be compared with those of X-ray selected NLS1 samples and classical Seyfert-1s to discuss/infer systematic trends of the X-ray spectral shape as a function of the FWHM of (Hbeta) which, combined with luminosity, allows to estimate the Eddington ratio and the mass of the central black hole.
