An analytic model is presented for halos around extragalactic dust excited by X-rays which are detectable by Einstein and Exosat satellites. Detection of the grains by their halos obviates the necessity of predicting the presence of the grains by evolutionary models of the sources. X-ray scattering by grains is treated similarly to line-of-sight light bending by gravitational lenses. Consideration is given to the positions of the X-ray sources and the grains and to the local scattering angle integrated over the scattering time. Optical depths are calculated from source to grain and grain to the observer plane. The halo intensity is shown to be proportional to the grain density. It is expected that X-ray data already on-hand will have information on grain halos, which may have higher luminosities than the X-ray sources, e.g., quasars.
