The authors present preliminary results of the optical identifications of 40 X-ray sources detected in a 13.5 ks ROSAT pointing and in the ROSAT all-sky survey in the Cha II star forming region (SFR). The level of X-ray emission of the Cha II members is comparable to that of young stars in the Cha I, Taurus-Auriga and Lupus SFRs, but the members of the ρ Oph SFR apparently have significantly higher levels of X-ray emission. Implications on the evolutionary status of Cha II are discussed.
