Rosat all sky survey data of the brightest clusters of galaxies, like Virgo, Perseus, and Coma, are presented. These observations reveal new information on the dynamical state of the galaxy clusters. Coma, for example, the archetype of a relaxed virialized cluster shows clear evidence for substructure: a concentration of galaxies, found already on the optical, is in fact a physical object and appears to be in the process of merging with the cluster. In pointed observations of clusters of galaxies substructure becomes even more evident. A2256, a Coma like cluster, is the first object in which the merging of a group and a cluster of galaxies was found. In addition, long pointed observations enable us to measure for the first time an azimuthally averaged temperature distribution, as will be shown for A2256. These data can be used to determine the distribution of dark matter in the cluster and to measure its mass.
